The below may be helpful once you have received your order and want additional information. If you have not yet ordered and want product info, please visit our PRODUCTS PAGE or the FAQ & ORDER pages. Our Player's Kit video also demonstrates and explains proper polishing.
Here are some tips and more info for best results. These are NOT a substitute for the enclosed instruction sheet that are included with your polish. Please read completely the enclosed instructions with your order before polishing.
- Start with a clean surface - If needed clean instrument surface before polishing using our detail sprays and a microfiber towel. If you ordered the Player's Kit, you can use the stage 1 blend (red) to clean and prep the guitar. In addition to being a mild polish, the #1 blend also will clean up most surfaces of dirt and grime. if your guitar hasn't been cleaned in 20 years you may need to have it professionally cleaned or buffed depending on the condition.
- How to polish a whole guitar - start on one surface and do in sections. Example: you want to polish the whole back of your guitar, so break it up into four smaller sections; then polish each section separately. Use only enough polish each time. Use a coin-sized amount of polish on the cloth, and rub vigorously for about 10-15 seconds before wiping clean and repeating this process. Using too much polish on the surface will diminish effectiveness. Polish should spread evenly while maintaining a thin, wet layer of working polish between the towel and the instrument.
- Use a microfiber towel - using cotton towels and other so-called guitar cloths can and will scratch. We get emails all the time (and orders) from people who scratched their guitars using the wrong towels, even guitar cloths from their local guitar shop. Microfiber is an extremely soft synthetic fiber which is better for polishing your surface, we provide high quality safe towels available separately or bundled with kits.
- Use a separate section of the towel - ...for wiping the polish off. Better yet use a separate towel, one for polishing and one for wiping the surface clean, this keeps from mixing up the towels.
- Player's Kit - this is the best polishing product offered. If you ordered the kit, you may notice the #2 blue polish usually does most of the work. This is not to say you won't need the #1 red, it is a mild polish as well as a prepping and finishing blend for the blue blend. After you've finished polishing with the #2 blue, many guitars and surfaces will look better with more deep luster when doing a final last polish with the red #1.
- Storage and shelf life - please store in a cool, dry environment with the instruction sheet. Keep containers tightly covered when not in use to avoid contaminants & having the product dry out. The recommended shelf life is one year and product is guaranteed fresh as such; although product may last longer. Many users will experience longer shelf life depending on use and storage. (Keep in mind any product that contains water has roughly a year shelf life.) Only use clean towels and avoid dipping your fingers or other foreign objects into the polish containers. Use of dirty towels or getting contaminants in the containers can cause mold or bacteria and shorten product life. You may optionally refrigerate the product to extend shelf life but this is not normally needed. Always let containers warm to room temperature before use for proper spreading, and always shake well.
- When polishing, try not to rub the surface with the towel's tag or seam edge. These areas can scratch. We recommend cutting off the tags on your microfiber towels before use. If you see light scratches showing up on a dark guitar you might be using the wrong applicator or pressing too hard against a towel seam or tag.
- Keep towels debris-free - Microfiber towels tend to stick to dirt and foreign matter like tape. Make sure your towels haven't picked up any foreign matter before rubbing your guitar. If you drop your microfiber on the floor, its best to use a fresh clean towel. Microfibers can stick to dirt, sand grains, and other tiny objects that you don't want to rub against your finish.
- Wash microfiber towels separately - just wash all your microfiber towels together as you would normal towels, but with nothing else besides other microfiber products (otherwise the towels pick up lint and other fabric fibers which are hard to remove). Pick any debris off your towels before washing so the debris doesn't get ground up and all over your towels in the wash. Never use dryer sheets or fabric softener. Cool or low/med dryer heat is best. Don't over your towels or they won't absorb as much water. Do not line dry outside.
